The micropower wireless meter reading system applied before 2013 generally uses a working frequency of 433MHz or 2.4GHz, free frequency band, no operating costs, linear or star type meter reading structure, transmission distance point-to-point 500-1000 meters, subject to obstacles Blocking influence is relatively large, and its adaptability to various community environments is poor.

From 2013 to now, the micro-power wireless meter reading system adopts a public measurement frequency band with a working frequency of 470 to 510 MHz, and the frequency and service are protected by the national radio regulatory agency, and the transmission power is not more than 50 mW. The technology uses a new type of wireless network technology that is completely different from the traditional wireless network, that is, a wireless mesh network, also called “multi-hop technology”.

In the power industry, micro-power wireless technology already occupies about 10% of the market. This is due to the fact that in 2013, the State Grid Corporation unified the standards and specifications of the micro-power wireless meter reading module and truly achieved compatibility and interchangeability. In the AMI communication network of the water and gas industry, because there is no mandatory standard for specification, the communication products of various manufacturers are developed according to their own defined communication protocols, which leads to the inability of interconnection between the modules produced by different manufacturers, and even the products of one manufacturer and each generation. Unable to achieve self-compatible and interchangeable.

In addition, micro power technology still has other problems:

Different geographic environments have a great influence on communication distance. According to the path loss formula: Ld=32.4 20logf 20logd, where f=MHz, d=Km, it can be seen that every 6 dB of signal loss will reduce the communication distance by half. Due to the influence of multi-path communication, when there are many obstacles near the micro power wireless module, the communication distance and reliability will be reduced.

Influence of weather conditions: When the air is dry, the communication distance is long and the air is wet (especially rain, fog, and snow weather). The communication distance is close. Within the allowable working ambient temperature range of the micro power wireless module, the temperature rise will cause the transmission power. Reducing and receiving sensitivity decrease, thereby reducing the communication distance;

Micro power wireless transmission power requires low power consumption of 50mW, low transmission power, short communication distance, and weak penetration capability.

For domestic meter manufacturing companies, the strategic layout of the LoRa table seems to have begun long ago.
