On March 31, 2016, engineering materials company Versarien PLC said it has teamed up with E3D Online to conduct preliminary experiments on graphene, a leading hot-end producer of 3D printers.

Investors said the advanced materials group told investors that part of the experiment includes how to incorporate graphene into the 3D printing process.

Their goal was to explore whether 3D printed components can benefit from the outstanding properties of graphene from 2D-Tech, a division of Versarien.

"We are always looking for new and innovative applications for our graphene technology and we look forward to working with E3D Online to advance the possible use of graphene in 3D printing products," said Neil Ricketts, CEO of Versarien. "This is one of a series of graphene applications we are researching and an example of bringing graphene from the lab to the real world."

Sanjay Mortimer, Director of Research and Development at E3D Online, said: "E3D is constantly looking to expand the application boundaries of 3D printing, so it is exciting to work with Versarien to try to integrate graphene into 3D printed parts and we look forward to creating Reinforced materials with advanced capabilities that would not have been possible without this collaboration.
