Insolight, Switzerland, announced on September 7 that it has achieved 36.4% conversion efficiency for its concentrating solar panels (Figure 1). Allegedly as a plane solar panels can be set on the roof of the conversion efficiency, may create a world record. Currently the highest conversion efficiency of solar panels on the market is only about 18 ~ 20%. Therefore, the company's solar panel conversion efficiency can be said close to 2 times the commercial products. Concentrated Solar Panels Stack transparent, flat, thin plastic optical lenses on solar cells. This captures the different wavelengths of sunlight and concentrates it on the solar cells to achieve high conversion efficiencies. The theoretical efficiency is said to be as high as 42%. Concentrated solar cells already exist, but were previously only used for limited uses such as spacecraft because of the high manufacturing costs. The company used inexpensive lenses to collect light into solar cells to achieve cost savings (Figure 2). The goal is to launch solar panels that average households can afford. The company said the optical technology being developed has also been patented. All three have work experience in business and start their own business to realize high efficiency solar panels at a low cost. Also received EPFL financial assistance for venture capital EPFL Innogrants. The company put more solar cells on the market at a slightly higher unit price than its predecessor, but the difference could soon be recovered due to its roughly double conversion efficiency, said Florian Gerlich, chief operating officer (COO). The company's goal is to provide a photovoltaic power generation system that can replace fossil fuels by introducing solar panels with high conversion efficiency and simple settings for general purpose applications.
