On the 27th, the China Auto Circulation Association and the National Passenger Vehicle Market Information Association jointly issued August customs auto import data. In August, the number of auto customs imports was 86,700, a year-on-year increase of 38% and a year-on-year increase of 10%.

In the first eight months of this year, the accumulative customs import volume of automobiles was 631,800, a year-on-year increase of 25%. Wang Cun, senior manager of China Import Auto Trading Co., Ltd., said that the strong growth of imports in August reflected that some manufacturers are actively increasing imports to meet the upcoming “Golden 9 Silver 10”; it is expected that vehicle imports this year will exceed 1 million vehicles.

Passenger cars have always been the main force of customs import cars. In August, passenger cars imported 84,100 vehicles, which accounted for 97% of the total vehicle imports, a year-on-year increase of 38% and a year-on-year increase of 10%. Among them, the import of cars was 28,900, an increase of only 1% year-on-year, and the market share decreased from 39% in the previous month to 34%; while the imports of SUVs and MPVs continued to maintain a rapid growth trend: 51,000 SUVs were imported, up by 68% year-on-year. %, MPV imports 4,156 vehicles, an increase of 82% year-on-year.

The trend of imported vehicle emission upgrades was obvious. In August, the imported vehicles in the 1.5-2.0L displacement range decreased by 14% year-on-year, while the 2.5-3.0L displacement range increased by 84% compared to the same period of last year. Import volume in the 4.0L or more displacement range increased year-on-year. 71%.

The import volume of Japanese cars resumed quickly, and imports rose steadily, but the market share declined slightly. According to the data, Tianjin Port imported 35,000 vehicles in August, ranking first in import volume and an increase of 42.9% year-on-year. In July, the port imported 30,200 vehicles, a year-on-year decrease of 12.1%.

Wang Cun said that the gradual increase in Tianjin Port's imports mainly benefited from the rapid production of Japanese cars, but due to the impact of the earthquake in Japan, Tianjin Port’s dominant position as the first port of imports was weakened. Correspondingly, the Japanese brand share in August dropped by 2% from the previous month to 22%; the British share increased from 5% to 8%. Wang Cun said that the increase in the market share of the British automotive industry mainly benefited from the best-selling brands such as Land Rover.

In terms of sub-brands, in the ranking of imported brands in August, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Audi ranked the top three, with import volumes of 12,700 and 10,300, respectively, 6,100, an increase of 55.6%, -0.4%, and 65.1% year-on-year, respectively. Followed by Land Rover, imported 5,400 vehicles, a sharp increase of 122.7% year-on-year. Accumulated data show that BMW imported 104,600 units in January-August, ranking first, an increase of 42.5%; Mercedes-Benz imported 88,700 units, an increase of 7.6%, Audi imported 40,200 units, an increase of 54.8%.

Wang Cun said that imports increased steadily in August, and some manufacturers increased their imports to welcome Jin Jiuyin. In the next few months, Japanese cars will increase supply. According to previous years' experience, there will be inventory of impulse inventory in November and December. It is expected that vehicle imports will exceed one million vehicles this year.
